I was looking at Masters degrees. There’s one in History at the Open University that looks good. And costs £4020. Poooor. And doing a masters in History means I’m not doing another course in Psychology, which in turn may mean it’s harder for me to do clinical Psychology which is what I have been aiming towards for ages, although I doubt my decison now…..In turn this all means I may have to give up on my dream to go to Oxford. I do actually need to decide what to do pretty soon. I’m finding that highly poor. What do I want to do?!

In other news..I’m having theological problems….not so much the faith thing, I still have that….just….everything else. Poor. I also think whatever I do for my birthday (2 weeks tomorrow, also poor) will be ruuubbish. Can you tell I’m a pessimist?

I wasn’t actually going to blog today March 24, 2009

I was in fact going to work amazingly hard on coursework and then carry on re-arranging my bedroom, which is currently causing me much stress. But then I started to read this:

And consequently couldn’t stop reading it for the rest of the day. It completely appealed to my love of British History, whilst being romantic and scary at the same time, even including early Christianity. What more could I ask for in a book?! It’s been a while since I’ve been so engrossed in a book, engrossed enough to spend the whole day reading it. And, I’m quite proud….I didn’t read the end first to find out what happened. I feel quite sad I’ve finished reading it though. I love it when books make characters seem so real in my mind, but it always saddens me when the book finishes….because those people’s lives also finish. Barbara Erskine is a fantastic author for sure. The only thing that did annoy me, was the main character. The way she behaved was slightly unbelieveable considering the situation she was in, but it did make me have to carry on reading to see what happened.

Now I really should do some coursework. Oh the joys.

I’m a survivor March 23, 2009

I’ve had a bad day. No point in moaning about it here, but it’s been bad all the same. I’d dearly like to stuff my face with chocolate to compensate, but it would offset the 4 miles I’ve walked today.

I nearly got blown away today. Seriously. One particular gust of wind caused leaf debris and other bits of sharp grit on the floor to strike me in the face at a million miles an hour. I’m surprised I survived. But survive I did. I battled on through the strong winds. Like the battling person I am.

Ah I just got a text from my good old school friend. She amuses me in everything she does. This is mainly due to how gullible she is. For example she was told that Fruit Pastilles (the lovely sweets) grew on Rowntrees (as in Rowntrees, the makers of other delicious sweets, but in tree form) in the Nestle region of France. And believed it.  She puts a smile on my face.

I’m going to go read, marvel at the wind and fight off the urge to gorge on chocolate. Adios.

Blogging before breakfast March 20, 2009

The start of the Easter holidays. How wonderful! Before I start coursework and revision (I’m actually going to do some work and not procrastinate for at least the first day of the Easter hols) I’m blogging and then going to have some breakfast. Breakfast is my favourite of all things. :)

My placement is going well. Touch wood. I really like all the children I get to work with, they’re all such characters and I’m getting to know them all. I was really pleased when the tiny, youngest one proclaimed that he trusted me. Made me smile. My first day there was a bit hairy, the youth leader decided we’d take them over to the park, which is fun, except there’s so many busy roads to cross and some of the kids refused to listen. But it ended up being fine, until we actually got to the park and two of them disappeared into the woods. When they were found we promptly went back. This week the new Wii was set up, which is great, but they all got a bit over excited. But it was good. :)

Daniel came back from Uni this week, so we’ve met up many times….and all of those times have involved food of some kind. We went to Nandos and Wetherspoons on Monday, we went for lunch and cake on Tuesday and on Thursday we went for crumble. Mmmmm *crumble craving* We also went to see The Young Victoria. It was really good! They changed bits though, so it was slightly historically inaccurate, but still a good film nonetheless. We also went to the Art Gallery, which has interactive exhibitions. One in particular involved putting you hand into a big box thing and feeling what was in there. This caused Daniel to scream louder than even I could, which in turn caused me to laugh hysterically.

Now I best get breakfast. Hurrah! I’m thinking Weetabix. Less than 3 weeks till my birthday! Yay!

Yummmm

Yummmm

Inspired by recent discussions March 8, 2009

There are some very odd looking creatures on this planet. Below are just a few.

I decided to embrace a new trend today….and joined Twitter. However, I have found myself to be the first out of all of the people I know to have done so. Interesting.

I’m currently trying to work out how to work the internet on my phone. First time for everything.

Monday Monday, although it’s now Tuesday March 3, 2009

A quick blog before I try get some harcore revision done for my stats exam next week. (Whoever invented stats was a FOOL) Anyway…

Yesterday I had my induction at where I will be doing my placement. It was just me and a nice lady. She was enthusiastic also….they all seem to be, maybe it’s catching. She showed me round, the place is huge, I’m sure I will get lost! She told me about the different schemes they offer for children and young people experiencing mental health problems. They do so much there, I was swamped with information. She asked me to work with the 7-11 year olds, in their Monday evening youth club. I agreed and start next week! The problems the children have range from Autism, ADHD etc to having been victims of abuse or domestic violence. I think it’ll be challenging and upsetting at times but so worthwhile.

The lady then told me about this new scheme they’re trying to establish and set up, an early intervention scheme, which is exactly what it says. It will be educating children with early signs of things like psychosis, helping them learn about care plans, what the illness is and basically trying to give them some independence and insight into their mental health problems, early enough. She then asked me, if I would like to help set it up! What an honour. I haven’t even started and I get asked to help with such an important thing. I, of course said yes. I’ll be working with a lecturer from my uni who volunteers, a mental health professional and someone from the charity. Exciting stuff. I just hope I’m good enough. I’m glad they’re giving me the opporunity though, I think it’s ‘cos when you volunteer there they want to make sure you get the most out of it and that they get the most out of you.

I also got a certificate for my training…which made me feel like I was about 12 again, but it was nice. So all in all…it went well. :)

Other news….I accepted the invitation to the awards evening, I hope it goes OK! And, it’s one of my very important friend’s birthdays tomorrow, so Happy Birthday Daniel! :D
